Developer’s Note : Juggernaut
Having announed on the 23rd that they will have to delay the release date for raid bosses to August 8th, a new developer’s note on one of the raid bosses has been posted today.
The first Developer’s Note for Ep3 raid bosses is about the Juggernaut.
This abomination of machine and organism is spawned from an uncompleted experiment will bring brand new combat mechanics and a hideous face to boot.
The Juggernaut used it’s massive body and long arms to attack at long range, expels toxic clouds from it’s body, and spews lightning from it’s mouth against closely grouped players. It will us it’s array of attacks to keep players on their toes.
Central Charging Device
One of the most important patterns to deal with is it’s ‘charging’ phase.
The Juggernaut will sometimes attempt to charge itself with a device located at the center of the map. When it does this, it will also shoot out several bombs.
The players will have to pick up these bombs and throw them back at the Juggernaut. If the Juggernaut is hit with enough bombs before it fully recharges the charge will fail and the hidden weak point on it’s face will be revealed where the players will be able to deal extra damage.
This will be crucial in defeating the Juggernaut.
If the players fail to stop the charge, the Juggernaut will leap up and connect itself to the ceiling. Staying where the players can’t reach it, the Juggernaut will then start to attack the players with poison and lightning. It will also sometimes grab a player and pound him/her on the ceiling.
The concept for making it hang from the ceiling wasn’t planned during the initial phase of development. But we got the idea that it might be fun to see a monster of this appearance attack from the ceiling and started working on that little idea.
Juggernaut’s model was still under development at the time so we made a prototype using a Giant Spider model and had fun seeing a the spider move around upside-down on the ceiling.
This was soon applied to the Juggernaut and we have been able to make a new combat mechanism from this feature.
The next Developer’s Note will be on Vak 1. This raid boss will also show off new combat mechanisms that will provide a new gaming experience for players. We hope you forward to meeting this boss as well.
