PvP Arena Update, Developer’s Note
Following Deathmatch and Godmatch, the new 1:1 pvp mode Arena has been updated.
The basic functions of the new feature is explained on the Developer’s Note.
Unlike previous PvP modes, the Arena is a place where players can fight 1 on 1.
While being watched by many spectators with only your own skills to guide you to victory, the Arena will provide a PvP experience unlike the existing team-competition based PvP.
Let’s get to some details on the system.
1. Entering the Arena
The PvP lobby has been overhauled with the Arena update. As you can see in the screenshot above, you can participate in PvP anytime you want using the UI.
Though the Arena, as with other PvP modes, is restricted to those who are at least above level 40.
2. Arena Rules
First of all, all challenges are completed with one match so it’s all or nothing depending on a single match. One player must be defeated within 90 seconds or the player with more [percentage of] health after the time is up will be declared the winner.
Second is that a spectator mode has been added for the first time in Mabinogi Heroes.
Many of you probably already guessed by now that’s what the seats above the stage are for. A total of 64 players can join an Arena channel, each with 4 rings so that a total of 8 players can be engaging in PvP at the same time for each channel.
The remaining players in the channel can spectate with ‘Spectator Mode’. A new feature that will allow players will be able to observe info on potential opponents will be added to Spectator Mode in the near future. Players engaging in PvP can also see how many players are spectating the ring they are fighting on.
To even out the odds for low geared players, those with under 15k atk or matk will have their damage boosted to 15k and the same applies for defense which will be boosted up to 6k [3.5k for evies]
Some detail may change during the test.
3. Arena rewards
Arena will award the winner with 1 seal of glory
Players will be able to track the number of times they won in the Arena and, like other PvP modes, the player with the highest number of wins for each week will be given a special Arena title.
4. Wrapping up
The developing team struggled to resolve the issue of character balance and is still working to improve on that part.
One of the directions we’re going with PvP is, in order to avoid situations where the team with more atk wins, a ‘PvP matchmaking system’ to pit players with similar gear against each other which will be tested on the test server.
Also in order to handle abusing several fixed are being planned. For example, an option to kick out problematic players and adding a minimum clear time and others are being considered.
Developing new features that don’t concern fighting a monster are still underway in order to keep the game interesting and we will continue to work hard to keep the game up to expectations.
